Question:

How does oxidative stress leads to cancer?

Shravan Kumar K.

The presence of free radicals in the extracellular matrix induces mitochondria to release calcium ions that activates several cell signaling pathways. This signaling cascade triggers specific genes called oncogenes that facilitate uncontrolled cell division, thus leading to cancer.

Question:

What is Mitosis and Meosis?

Shravan Kumar K.
Answer:

Each living cell is capable of reproduction. When a cell makes an exact copy of itself it is mitosis. Our nails grow and wounds heal because the cells undergo mitosis. During Mitosis the genetic make up of the mother cell is retained in the daughter cell. Meosis is a speacial type of cell division called reduction division found only in reproductive cells called gametes. During Meosis the genes in the mother cell is halved into two daughter cells, that further undergo mitosis to form four cells. Meosis also ensures genetic diversity in each daughter cell by a phenomenon called crossing over.
