If I have a triangle with a hypotenuse of length 5, and a side of length 4 what is the length of the 3rd side?

3. Pythagoras's theorem states that a^2 + b^2 = c^2. We know we have a hypotenuse of length 5, so c = 5. One of the other edges has a length of 4 so a = 4. 5^2 = 25 and 4^2 = 16. 5^2 - 4^2 = 25 - 16 = 9. As the squared root of 9 is 3 our answer is 3.

Write a function to calculate the hypotenuse of a right angled triangle where the other two sides are given as inputs. (You can assume that <cmath> has been loaded in the header file.)

What is the slope or gradient of the line going through the points (4,-2) and (6,7)?

(4-6)/(-2-7) = -2/-9 = 2/9 This can equally be calculated by (6-4)/(7-(-2)) = 2/(7+2) = 2/9 To calculate this question in general you need to calculate the difference in the x-coordinate divided by the difference in the y-coordinate.
