3. Pythagoras's theorem states that a^2 + b^2 = c^2. We know we have a hypotenuse of length 5, so c = 5. One of the other edges has a length of 4 so a = 4. 5^2 = 25 and 4^2 = 16. 5^2 - 4^2 = 25 - 16 = 9. As the squared root of 9 is 3 our answer is 3.
