What comes to mind when you think about the first time you learned how to write?
My hand was guided to make words come to life, objects were held in front of me and their names were repeated over and over and over again, and books were read to me every single day without fail. These are the memories that come to my mind whenever I think about how I first learned how to speak, read, and write. My mother believed it was crucial to become literate from a very young age. She started teaching me my abc’s and 123’s when I was just 2 years old. She also taught me how to write my name before I even knew my own name. My mother was doing something she wished someone would have done for her. No one had taught her how to read or write. She learned on her own and she became my first teacher.
