Question:

What is diffusion of responsibility and how would it predict what would occur in a situation where a single individual needs help and there is a crowd surrounding him/her?

Inactive
Brandon G.
Answer:

The idea of diffusion of responsibility describes the situation in which the more people there are surrounding a person in need of help, the less likely the person who needs the help is to get that help. Each person thinks that someone else will call for help instead of getting help themselves, resulting in the individual looking for help ultimately being less likely to be helped. Larger groups are typically worse than smaller groups.

Answer:

The energy that must be added to a system in order to allow a reaction to go proceed. Changing the activation potential does not change the equilibrium of a reaction, but it does affect the speed at which a reaction that is not in equilibrium to reach equilibrium.

Question:

Which ion channels contribute primarily to the rising and falling phases of a typical action potential? Make sure to describe the direction of ion flow through the channels.

Answer:

The ion channel responsible for the rising phas of an action potential is the opening of voltage gated sodium channels that allow the inward flow of Na+ ions. The falling phase of an action potential primarily involves the opening of slowly opening K+ channels that allow the outward flow of K+ ions.
