I live on a farm and am homeschooling my Grade 3 son. He is gifted, but has Asperger's Syndrome, and we could not put him into hostel. I love teaching but being too far from town, have not been able to make this my career. Instead, I have devoted my time to horticulture, and in trying to make a difference in the environment. Editing has allowed me to keep in touch with what is going on in various fields of science.
1995 - 1996 I taught a section of biology to children from disadvantaged backgrounds who wanted too improve their Matric (school-leaving) results.
1996 - temporary lecturer, Botany 1, Rhodes University
Since 2015 I have run a small science club for homeschooled children, where I combine a lesson of approximately 15 minutes duration, with fun science experiments and exercises to give them practical experience of what I've taught them We have covered aspects of natural science, chemistry and physics.
