Question:

What is the best way to follow what a story is really about?

Answer:

Writing yourself a roadmap through a story, especially one with many settings and characters, is the key to understanding it. Having a sheet of paper where you write down each character's name, along with their backstory and a shorthand list of what they've done and the places they have been, can alleviate the fog that comes from reading a complex story or novel.

Question:

How can I see how art has evolved over the years, how can I see why?

Answer:

Most of art history, as it is recorded in textbooks, is the result of political propaganda. Once you get past caveman days and into the Roman Era, statues of kings and emperors displaying their might begin to appear. In the Renaissance era, religious paintings were as prevalent as the power of the church. In the 1940's, German officials took it upon themselves to see that abstract art was shamed, while realism was renowned. After World War II, the CIA paid artists like Pollock to create abstract pieces to show America's mental fortitude.

Question:

When creating a work in Adobe Photoshop, how do you develop your composition?

Answer:

Reference, in my experience, is the key to finding optimal composition. Look at paintings, photos, and illustrations that you enjoy and follow their lines of action. Even draw over them if necessary. When you combine exciting lines of action with color palettes you enjoy, you can't fail!
