About Nicky

About Nicky
I graduated with a bachelor of arts in humanities with a music emphasis. This means that I did a ton of work on literary theory but specialized in music as an art form of study. I also did classical and musical theatre voice training. I recently graduated with my Master of Public Health degree. That seems totally different from my bachelor's degree, but I loved it. I loved seeing how the different pieces of government, society and science all fit together to create health policy. My areas of research were infectious diseases and maternal and...

Teaching Experience

Teaching Experience
I've always loved the process of helping others learn. There's just so much satisfaction when I can help that light bulb go on and clear away the frustration. I paid my own way through my undergrad years and tutored writing and taught voice lessons to help me earn extra money. I still teach voice lessons today. I also earned my breastfeeding educator certification and taught lactation professionals about special topics of interest in breastfeeding. I teach breastfeeding classes online and will add childbirth education classes soon as well.

Work Experience

Work Experience
Vacasa, Housekeeper
2020 - 2020
Part-time job as a housekeeper cleaning vacation rentals. This job requires attention to detail to ensure the rental is safe for and attractive to guests.
Inland Empire Breastfeeding Coalition, Breastfeeding Education Intern
2019 - 2020
This was part of the professional experience for my Master of Public Health practicum. I prepared and taught an education session on specialized topics in breastfeeding for breastfeeding professionals. I also prepared a report on breastfeeding friendly hospital legislation for the Coalition to use in their work with the state government.
Birth Multiverse, Breastfeeding and Childbirth Educator
2017 - 2020
This is my own online school where I teach breastfeeding and childbirth education classes. I developed my own curriculums because I and other women I interviewed felt that much of the curriculum on these subjects didn't meet their needs and didn't give them the information they needed to effectively make informed decisions about their needs and those of their babies.
Self-employed, Voice teacher
2003 - 2020
People started asking me to teach them voice lessons so I did! Each student has different needs and I start by evaluating where they are at vocally, what their goals are and what they need to work on. I tend to focus a lot on technique because it is so foundational, but I also bring in goal setting, performance psychology, and acting for singers as well. With some of my more advanced students I teach ear training.
Self-emlpyed, Writing tutor
2003 - 2007
I helped students with their essays and writing. I helped them refine their thesis, challenged them to provide sufficient support for their position, and looked for typos and other errors.
