Question:

What three mistakes do consumers often make when trying to make purchase decisions.

Daniel C.
Answer:

1. Consumers tend to take into account monetary costs but ignore the non-monetary consequences; in other words, consumers tend to focus on the actual cost of a purchase and not on the potential consequences (additional non-monetary costs) for their decisions. 2.Consumers fail to ignore sunk costs; this means people tend to make purchases based on or off of past decisions which have no importance in the initial purchase (not buying a car because you already bought a oven a couple days ago, the oven's cost is the sunk cost) 3. Consumers tend to be unrealistic about future behavior; in other words, consumers tend to buy things they think that they'll use or want later but end up not using them/consuming them, losing their benefit from the purchase.
