An "hiato" happens when two vowels are present together in the same word but they are in adjacent syllables. In some cases, that separation is marked with the usage of a tilde, although it depends on the vowels. Meanwhile, a "diptongo" occurs when those two vowels are in the same syllable.
Why is Tourism usually regarded as a "smokeless industry"?
Most industries related to manufacture usually rely on a big workforce and different resources that, in turn, tend to pollute the environment with smoke. On the other hand, although Tourism is an industry in needs of resources and a big workforce, its goal is not to manufacture a tangible product but to create an intangible experience.
Why Winter temperatures in Western Europe tend to be much milder than in other regions on the same latitude, like Northeastern North America?
The North Atlantic Current is a warm current branching off from the Gulf Stream that warms the sea temperatures on Europe's Northwestern coasts. For example, parts of Iceland, located right next to the Polar Circle, enjoy ice-free coasts year-around. In addition, Northwestern prevailing winds in North America, get colder as they blow over a cold landmass, lowering temperatures. For instance, Boston has much lower winter temperatures than Paris, France, even when France is located further north.
