How has your writing evolved and improved through studying English?
My writing has evolved exponentially from studying English literature and the craft of writing. I found mentors in writing at an early age and found a passion for crafting language and using my words to create narratives that are compelling. I hope to impart this knowledge through my career.
What literary tradition needs to be taught more in literature classes?
Intersectionality! In all aspects of literature, there are many devices at play. Once the foundations of these literary traditions has been cemented, it is important to look beyond the craft and observe and study the intersections of culture, religion, place and time. Digging into these topics intertwines the importance of history and the impact that it has on literature.
If you could create an English class, what would be on the reading list?
The class would be on non-Eurocentric writing, primarily from indigenous decent. We would study literary complexities and the intersection of language, translation, religion, and the moral virtues of the time periods depicted.
