Asoka was considered to be one of India's greatest leaders. He united the country of India mostly through aggressive war. After he had united the country, he converted to Buddhism. Today his influence is shown through the flag which has the Ashoka Chakra, which is represented by 24 spokes. These spokes represent the edicts that Asoka had proclaimed as the rules of the land.
