Question:

What is the topic position of a sentence in scientific writing? The stress position?

Chelsea M.
Answer:

The topic position of a sentence in scientific writing occurs at the beginning of a sentence. The topic sentence is meant to tell the reader what the sentence is about and link the sentence with prior knowledge from past sentences. The stress position is at the end of a sentence. Information that the writer wants emphasized should be placed in the stress position; research has shown that readers have a natural habit of looking to the end of a sentence for emphasis.

Question:

What was the Stanford Prison Experiment and what psychological construct did the experiment embody?

Chelsea M.
Answer:

The Stanford Prison Experiment was conducted by Dr. Zimbardo. The experiment was conducted using college students. Half of the students in the study were assigned to be guards and the other half were assigned to be prisoners. The experiment ended early due to the intense nature of the study and the psychological abuse that was undergone. The construct that Zimbardo was examining was authoritarianism in the prison system.
