The cost to ride on a ferry is $5.00 per vehicle and driver with an additional cost of 50 cents per passenger. If the charge to get on the ferry is $6.50, how many people were in the vehicle?
First, write out the problem in an equation. The total cost for this vehicle is $6.50. So we have 6.50=? The cost for the vehicle and driver is $5.00, and the cost per passenger is 50 cents. We make x the number of passengers and our equation becomes $6.50=$5.00+0.5*X. We want to get X alone on one side of t he equation. So we start with the farthest number from x, which is the 5.00. Since it is added to the x, we subtract it from both sides, and the equation become 1.50=0.5X. And since the 0.5 is multiplied by x, we divide it from both sides. The equation becomes 3=X. So there were 3 passengers; but don't forget about the driver; so there are 4 people total in the vehicle.
Why is the Periodic Table of Elements so important?
The periodic table does more than just list every element on Earth, natural and man-made. The placement of each element is perfectly placed in its designated space due to its properties. Starting from top left and going right, the elements become bigger, heavier, and have more protons (atomic #). The lower and further right elements are the most reactive. They are grouped by row and colors. You can tell a lot about an element just by looking at the table.
What does DNA stand for? What does the name mean?
