Will the US and China fall into the Thucydides trap? Why or why not?
The analysis of whether a rise power and a falling power will engage in conflict hinges on the aspirations of the rising power: do they want to be the next world leader? China has engaged in extensive economic colonization around the world and continues to expand its influence in Asia but has not shown a proclivity to exert direct influence over other countries around the world because it has not seen itself as the moral arbitrator of the world.

What were the most important factors that went into Truman's decision to use the nuclear bomb against Japan?
One of the underanalyzed factors that went into Truman's decision was regarding Soviet intervention in Japan. Truman knew that the US was facing a protracted conflict against Japan and would need to engage in island by island fighting until they made it to Tokyo so they had two options: ask the Soviet Union for assistance or use the nuclear bomb to end the war with Japan. If the Soviets had gotten involved in the Pacific Theatre, history has shown that they would not have been likely to leave after the war was over (they remained in East Germany and much of Eastern Europe and Central Asia).
