Question:

Choose two works of art and give a detailed comparison of the two.

Kellen D.
Answer:

I chose two works from the Greek culture the New York, Kouros (ca. 600 BCE) is a nude freestanding stone portrayal of a man and the marble icon for the Greeks’ intelligence and new found democracy, completed in 432 BCE. I chose these pieces because they are both reminders. The Kouros of the man's life and his family and the Parthenon of the Greek representing the Greeks’ newfound democracy. The Kouros is very similar to the Egyptians’ work. As a funerary sculptor to be placed in a tomb it is similar to the ka statue of khafre. There are also several techniques used that are similar to the Egyptian techniques. For example the long hair down the back assists in holding up the neck also the open stance helps stabilize the sculpture. Unlike the Egyptian Pharaohs this man is nude and free standing giving it a likeness to those wandering in the room. The Greek culture is easily represented through the nudity and the very cubic stance, early Greeks used geometric characteristics in much of their works. The Parthenon built during the the Golden age of Greece, immortalizes their newfound ideals and beauties while influencing future western ideals. Similar to the Egyptian columns the Greeks used a cap and drum, however these columns are not carved out of the stone. Unlike the Egyptians who were ruled in a way similar to dictatorship and built pyramids as a symbol of the pharaoh's power, the Greeks built the Parthenon as a symbol of democracy and humans walking with their gods. The Greeks showed their culture through the artwork across the top of the entrance, the sculptures inside, the huge statue of Athena inside.

Question:

What is the slope of a the line y = 5x +2?

Kellen D.
Answer:

The answer is 5. Reason being is that when we have an equation in the format y = mx + b [Slope Intercept Form]. The slope is the number multiplied by x which is m. In the equation 5 is being multiplied by x. Therefore m = 5 and because our slope is the same as m, our slope is 5.
