Question:

What are the most important elements of an argumentative essay?

In an argumentative essay you are presenting a viewpoint and attempting to convince the reader that that viewpoint is the best one. This includes a main thesis statement, usually in the introduction, that describes the argument of the viewpoint of the paper in a short and concise manner. An argumentative essay uses either credibility, logic, passion, or a mixture of the three in order to convince the reader. The writing is then wrapped up with a concluding paragraph that should serve as the 'mic drop,' at the end of the paper, leaving the reader thinking about the argument.

x+y=5 x-y=1 Solve the system of equations for x and y.

Solve by solving one of the equations for x or y, then use that to solve the second equation. If you solve the first equation for x, you get x=5-y . You can use this value of x in the second equation to solve for y, like so: (5-y)-y=1 5-2y=1 -2y=-4 y=2 Now you can use your newfound value of y in one of the original equations to find the value of x. x+(2)=5 x=3. x=3, y=2

Question:

You break up 120 dollars between three people. The first has 15 dollars, the second has 3 times as much money as the first, and the third has 4 times as much as the first. How much money do they each have?

If the first is represented by x, the second is represented by y, and the third is represented by z, then you can represent the money in the same terms, like so: x=15 y=3x z=4x x+y+z=120 You use the value of x to solve for y and z. x=15, y=3(15), and z=4(15) Therefore, the first person, or x, has 15 dollars. The second, or y, has 45 dollars. The third, or z, has 60 dollars. You can check by adding x, y, and z together to equal 120.
