Question:

Which of the following sentences has correct grammar and punctuation? A) The dog is happy and, we are home. B) Because Mary had a little lamb. C) The baby, Aiden, is ten months old.

Abigail B.
Answer:

Letter C has correct grammar and punctuation. Letter A is incorrect because the comma is not in the right place. The comma is supposed to be placed BEFORE the word "and" in order to make the sentence a compound sentence. Letter B is incorrect because it is not a complete sentence. The word "Because" at the beginning of the sentence makes this a dependent clause. A dependent clause is meant to be added to an independent clause as a means for providing more information. In order to make this a complete sentence, an independent clause could be added. The word "Because" could also be removed to make the dependent clause an independent clause.

Question:

Solve 6x+5(6x+2) = -350.

Abigail B.
Answer:

Before solving this problem, know that the goal of a problem like this is to know the value of x. This means that we need to get x on one side of the equation through simplifying. Next, remind yourself of the order of operations, better known as PEMDAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction. Now that we are familiar with the order of operations, where do we start with this problem? We start by simplifying the PARENTHESES, 5(6x+2). By doing this, we multiply 6x by 5, as well as 2. 5*6x = 30x 5*2=10 Now, replace your answers into the equation. 6x+30x+10= -350. Now, what operation is next in our equation? It is ADDITION. Add like variables in order to simplify this equation. 6x+30x= 36x Next, rewrite the equation. 36x+10= -350 Now that the equation is simplified as much as possible at this point, the goal is to x by itself on one side of the equals sign to find out the value of x. In order to get 36x on its own side, subtract the 10 from the left side of the equals sign and subtract it from the -350. 36x+10= -350 -10 -10 36x = -360 Finally, divide both sides of the equation by 36 to get x by itself. 36x/36 = -360/36 x = -10
