Questions

Subject: Biology

TutorMe
Question:

In the central dogma of biology (going from genetic code to protein), which comes first: transcription or translation? What occurs (very generally) in each of these processes?

Answer:

The process of transcription occurs before translation. (Study/memorization tip: these processes occur in alphabetical order! Transcription before translation). Transcription takes place in the nucleus, where RNA is made from the DNA template. Translation takes place in the cytoplasm, where the RNA is used to make a protein.

Subject: Anatomy

Question:

Is the heart medial or lateral to the lungs? And is the heart superior or inferior to the diaphragm?

Answer:

The heart is medial to the lungs and superior to the diaphragm. With anatomical positions, medial means being closer to the midline of the body (which the heart is compared to the lungs), and superior means to be 'above' or closer to the head of the body (which the heart is, compared to the diaphragm).
