Question:

Please correct the following sentences: I think that a hero and heroine should be required to wear their capes.

Answer:

Because we have addressed both a male and female here, we need to make sure that the sentence bit subsequent to this agrees: "to wear his or her cape."

Question:

If we have a jar with 4 green marbles, 3 blue marbles, and 6 yellow marbles. What are my chances of picking marbles that aren't green?

Answer:

We first want to see how many marbles there are in total! We add 4+3+6 to get 13 total marbles. We then want to see how many marbles there are total, which do NOT include the green ones (3+6), or a total of 9 marbles. We then want to divide our total marbles, without green, by total marbles, including green. Here we get an answer of 9/13 as a fraction showing us that (by using a calculator), around 70% of the time, we won't pick marbles that are green.

Question:

How can I simplify 4x+3y-2x-5=12?

Answer:

Well, we want to start by getting together all of the like terms. We see that there are two "x's" here, so we want to combine those. 4x-2x will give us 2 x's. We then see that there is a -5 and a 12. How can we combine those? We want to add the 5 to both sides in order to combine 12+5, which will give us 17. We see that there is only one "y," which is 3y. Our simplest equation will now be 2x+3y=17.
