What are the major components of a traditional five paragraph essay?
The first is the introduction, which includes some context, a thesis stating your position or argument, and a projected organization (p.o.) that outlines the three major points you will be discussing to support your thesis. The body consists of three paragraphs. Each paragraph should have a topic sentence based on one of the points outlined in the p.o. The middle of each paragraph should provide evidence supporting the topic sentence, with final sentence summarizing the topic sentence as it pertains to the thesis. Finally, the conclusion ties all of the points from the three body paragraphs together to demonstrate to your reader how they support your thesis. This is your opportunity to make any final statements connecting your evidence to your thesis. No new information should be presented here.
What type of study skills would you use to prepare for a history essay exam?
First, I would identify any key terms that would help answer the prompt and make note cards to help study. Second, I would outline the essay with just enough detail to be able to rewrite the outline on the day of the test. Usually, I try to create an acronym out of the first letter of each topic. Finally, the week before the test I would practice writing the essay a time or two because the tactile process of writing help ingrain the information both in our mind and muscle memory.
