Describe two types of weathering in rocks.
Two types of weathering could include: 1. Onion skin weathering - The sun warms the surface of a rock by day and by night it cools down, causing the surface to expand and contract. Eventually, it breaks away just like an onion peel. 2. Freeze-thaw weathering- Water in a crack in a rock freezes and expands, making the crack bigger. After freezing and thawing numerous times, bits of rock will break off.
A student sprays deodorant in the corner of a changing room. After a while, everyone in the room can smell the deodorant. Describe how this process works.
The deodorant gas particles move from areas of higher concentration to areas of lower concentration by bumping randomly into the air particles and spreading out as a result.
Name the two hormones produced by the pancreas and say i) in what circumstances, ii) in what way, they adjust the glucose concentration in the blood.
The pancreas produces the hormones glucagon and insulin. i ) Glucagon is produced in response to a fall in the concentration of glucose in the blood; it stimulates the liver to release glucose. ii ) insulin is produced in response to a rise in the concentration of glucose in the blood; it stimulates the liver to convert glucose to glycogen.
