How does an SSRI work?
SSRI = selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor SSRIs inhibit the serotonin transporter at the presynaptic axon terminal, which increases the amount of serotonin in the synaptic cleft. This allows increased stimulation of the postsynaptic receptors.
