Questions

Subject: Writing

TutorMe
Question:

My first English writing assignment has to have an organized introduction, body, and conclusion. I can use Internet resources but I can't use "fake news". How am I supposed to know the difference, and where do I start with organizing it?

Answer:

Your paper will be better organized if you start with a brainstorming process, create an outline, and take careful notes when you research. Your introduction should tell the reader what you plan to say. The body will explain what you found in your research and offer evidence. Try to answer who, what, where and why. The conclusion will repeat what you've said and why your conclusion is valid. To validate your Internet resources, look up authors to see what else they write, whether they are cited in other articles or papers. See if you can find facts from the article in other resources.

Question:

I have to write a research paper about the electoral college process and its impact on elections in the last 20 years. Is it true that someone can lose the popular vote and still win the election? Has that ever really happened? I need quality resources from the Internet, and scholarly articles too.

Answer:

You could start with research about recent elections in 2000 and 2020. Read the constitution carefully, particularly sections pertaining to Federal elections. Round that out with articles about the history of the electoral college, when it was ratified and why. Quality Internet sources can include FiveThirtyEight.com, and newspaper articles about the elections of 18778, such as this one: https://www.nytimes.com/1887/10/31/archives/state-elections-of-1887.html

Question:

For my first English Composition paper, I can choose any book I want but I have to include literary criticism in the paper using academic and Internet resources. I want to read something by a Black author, about women and friendship. I want something that isn't too long or boring.

Answer:

Sula by Toni Morrison is a critically acclaimed book about two women growing up in Ohio in the 1950s. The author is popular, widely read, and also recognized as a leader in literature. Sula is one of her shorter books, and finding peer-reviewed articles about it won't be too difficult.
