What are basic similarities and differences between plants and fungi?
Plants and fungi are both eukaryotes, meaning they both contain a nucleus. Plants are in the kingdom Plantae while fungi are in the kingdom Fungi. Plants are multicellular, while fungi may be multicellular or unicellular. Plants are photosynthetic autotrophs, while fungi do not contain chloroplasts and are heterotrophs. While both plants and fungi contain cell walls, the cell walls of plants are composed of cellulose and the cell walls of fungi are composed of chitin.
When is it appropriate to use a semicolon in a sentence?
A semicolon is used to connect two related clauses which are not already connected by a conjunction, such as "and" or "but". Example: The snow melted quickly; we were sad to see it go. It is also appropriate to connect sentences in which a transitional phrase is present, such as "however" or "for example", with a semicolon. Example: The snow melted quickly; however, we were sad to see it go. Lastly, semicolon should be used when writing a list in which the series contain internal punctuation. Some things you can do in the winter are building snowmen with hats, sticks, and carrots; having a snowball fight with your friends or family; and going for a walk, where you can enjoy nature.
How did Franz Boas contribute to North American anthropology with the idea of cultural relativism?
Cultural relativism introduced the idea that cultures should be considered within the context of their own environment, rather than held to the standards of others. This led to museums curating artifacts based upon their cultural origin rather than function. Importantly, this also acknowledged this distinction of differences between Native American cultures.
