Subject: Basic Math
Is new math the only way to solve problems?
In short, no. Math is unique in its ability to arrive at the same answer while using multiple different approaches. This is especially important when you consider the different needs and learning styles of children. There is no one right way!
Subject: Early Childhood Education
Do children need to learn to read phonetically or by word calling?
Research suggests that students who are taught a specific, chronological, process of letter identification followed by phonemic awareness will have the most success in reading acquisition.
Do you feel that the socioeconomic status of a school and its students has a direct correlation to the success of its students academically?
Students and schools do not exist in a vacuum. Children bring their socioeconomic status, their ethnicity, their experiences, and their family of origin into every classroom they enter. So the answer is, yes, socioeconomic status and many other things are direct indicators of student success.
