What is the difference between Marketing and Sales?
If you want to look at it very simple here's an interesting way to explain it. Selling happens on a 1on1 basis. There is a human directly involved who is speaking to another human, offering a product or service. In some cases, the salesperson can be talking to a few people, let's say in a group sales event, and sell to them right there. Marketing however happens on a larger scale. And it is usually not done in personal contact. If you run an advertisement (advertising is part of marketing) in a newspaper then thousands of people can see it. Sometimes they can now go on a link or call a phone number and order the product. In most companies, Marketing comes before sales. Marketing produces "interested people" who can then get in touch with a salesperson to go back and forth and eventually finalize the deal.
How do you stay motivated to reach your goal?
To stay motivated you need to know you are progressing towards your goal. That is achieved mainly by breaking down your goal to daily subgoals and keep working on those continually. The key factor is knowing that it's not a sprint, it's a marathon of consistency and persistence and not giving up.
What is a major mistake most people are making when they start a business and create a product?
It is a major mistake to assume that you know what the market wants. To create a product based on your inner thoughts, or maybe something you would want to buy. It's a very important lesson to learn that you are not your customer and you don't know what's going on in their heads. So the basis of good business is as always good communication to find out what is it that people actually want instead of what you think they want.
