Question:

What makes something alive?

Katherine R.

There is a lot of debate about which characteristics of a thing are required for it to be "alive". However, in general, there are seven characteristics that make something a living being. 1. They take in nourishment 2. They break down 'food' to get energy 3. They get rid of waste products from their 'bodies' 4. They move 5. They grow 6. They reproduce copies of themselves in some way 7. They respond to their environment

Question:

If your goal is to have a Net (take home) Income of $1,500 per month, and you know that 25% of your gross income will be taken out for taxes, what would your Gross Income need to be to meet your needs? Katherine R. Answer: In order to solve this problem, you will need to set up an equation with one variable (we'll say 'x') and then solve for that variable. It will make it easier to express the percentage as a decimal - in this case 0.25. 'x' is going to equal our Gross Income. That is what we're trying to find. The Basic Equation will be: Net Income + Amount taken out for taxes = Gross Income Net Income =$1500 x = Gross Income Gross Income will be multiplied by 0.25 to find the amount taken out for taxes. So the Mathematical Equation will be: $1500 + 0.25x = x Now we solve the equation for x, starting with subtracting .25x from both sides to give us:$1500 = 0.75x Now we divide both sides by 0.75 in order to get the answer. $2,000 = x In other words, your gross income will need to be$2,000 to meet your needs. 25% of that will be taken for taxes, and the rest will be your Net Income.
