Question:

What should my thesis statement look like?

Margaret D.
Answer:

Your thesis should be a clear defendable statement that fits into the introduction of your paper. It should be a statement that can be backed up by evidence to support the thesis. "The Scarlet Letter was a good book" is not a thesis. "The fire imagery in The Scarlet Letter emphasizes the pain of social isolation for Hestor" is a defendable thesis statement. In subsequent paragraphs, different examples from the text would be introduced to support this statement. By the end of the paper, the reader will either be convinced that yes, fire imagery emphasizes the pain, or no, it seems like this imagery has another meaning.

Question:

Explain the process known as biomagnification.

Margaret D.
Answer:

Biomagnification is the process by which the concentration of toxins, pollutants, and other harmful subsistence increases at higher trophic levels. For example, if a mosquito is ingesting a small amount of pesticide, a fish that eats 100 of these mosquitoes will have a higher dose of this pesticide in it's system. And then if a bear eats 100 of these fish, the cycle continues.
