What are some things that cause air pollution and what can we do to help?
Things that can cause air pollution include: burning rubber and plastics, forest fires, not maintaining vehicles, and not regulating chemical plants. We, as humans, can help by establishing laws such as the Clean Air Act, regulating chemical plants, and informing/educating the public about air pollution due to burning trash.
Why does ionization energy increase as you go to the right on the periodic table?
Ionization energy is the amount of energy needed to "remove" electrons. Remember that most atoms want to have a full outer shell (the octet rule). As you move to the right of the periodic table, you increase the amount of valence electrons (electrons on the outer shell). So elements in group 17/7A have seven valence electrons. That means that they only need one more electron to be full. This means that it will take a LOT more energy (ionization energy) to remove any or all of the seven electrons that element has.

Why are the elements in the periodic table listed in groups?
Elements are listed in groups (vertical) due to similar characteristics and properties.
