Question:

Why would you consider folklore an antecedent genre to fiction?

Answer:

Fictional stories are tales that can have real life elements, or very abstract elements, generally used to express representation of societal values and more. Folklore does the same thing using solely fictitious elements to tell their tale. Folklore and Fiction often both have genre constraints which help to further identify the genre in which they are associated. A number of constraints seen from folklore can be seen represented in the genre of fiction.
