Subject: Library and Information Science

Question:

How can you be sure students aren't censored without crossing a line with parents?

Answer:

This is a difficult subject because we have so many parents nowadays who will literally judge a book without reading it, therefore causing undue issues in the library. If a student requests a book that is controversial, I don't feel a librarian should censor without first reading the text in order to better make an informed decision and potentially defend the novel if needed.

Subject: Literature

Question:

Should literature from the 1800 - 1900's be studied today?

Answer:

Absolutely. However, there are many subjects during that time that are not relevant to today's youth and may cause issues in understanding and relevancy. Students can most certainly learn the elements of literature from that time period, but should be paired with relevant texts from recent times.

Subject: Education

Question:

Do you believe the way we educate children today is preparing them for the future?

Answer:

Unfortunately, I don't. I think students are not given the opportunities to correct mistakes and instead are having mistakes corrected for them; by this occurring, students are not able to learn problem solving through failure.
