Question:

What is the area of a rectangle with the length of 24 inches and the width of 15 inches?

Answer:

To find area you multiple length times width. So you would take 24 x 15 which equals 360, because 5 x 4 is 20, write the zero under the equal sign, cary the 2. 5 x 2 is 10 plus 2 equals 12. The first number under the equal line is 120. Next write a zero under the 120 in the ones column to signify multiplying the 10s. 1 x 4 is 4 and 1 x 2 is 2. The second number then would be 240. Add the two numbers together 120 +240= 360. Then you need to label. The area would be 360 inches squared.

Question:

What is an appositive, and why are they used?

Inactive

Answer:

An appositive is an interrupter in the sentence. They are used to add more details about a noun into your sentence. For example: Boston, headquarters for the Sons of Liberty, was an important city during the American Revolution. With an appositive you need to have commas around the phrase adding information, and the sentence will still make sense if you take the appositive out.
