Your patient has just had a fall in the restroom while trying to have a bowel movement, what are your first steps when attending to your patient?
The first priority is to check your ABC's (airway, breathing and circulation). Call for help. Obtain vital signs. If your patient is breathing and does have a pulse, perform a neurological exam to determine if your patient is arousable. If your patient is unarousable, performing a blood glucose test would be advisable. Once help has arrived and the patient is stable be sure to document all assessments as well as interventions.
