Do humans possess free will?
Some argue that humans are born as "blank slates", but that our choices are eventually determined by the environment and social influences individuals have as we develop, therefore we are a product of those influences, rather that a product of our own free choice. Some argue that we are instinctual beings, that function on our animalistic and biological instincts to survive and create community to survive, and that our choices are influenced by our biological and evolutionary instincts, rather than our own free choice. Those from religious backgrounds often believe that our fate is preplanned by a higher power and it is the will of the higher being that dictates our fates and choice, but that we have a sense of choice when presented with varying paths based around good or evil, serving our highest self as determined by that higher being. To protect their own belief in their freedom, many people stand by the idea that we do have the ability to make our own decisions completely independently, and that our will is dictated by our own thinking alone and therefore we possess free will.
