Question:

I have credit card debt on several cards. What is the best way for me to get caught up and pay off my debt?

Answer:

There are two approaches to paying off debt - The "Snowball" and the "Avalanche." Each approach has its benefits and drawbacks. The "Avalanche" approach is perhaps the most mathematically sound of the two options. Under this option, you would make minimum payments to all but one of your debts. The debt that you would repay at the highest rate would be your highest-interest debt. This works out to ensure that you pay as little in interest as possible, however, it does not take into account the amount of debt which each card may be holding. Studies have shown that while mathematically sound, this approach has issues revolving around human psychology. The "Snowball" method is the method which our brains are more likely to stay with. Under this method, you follow a similar plan: All but one card gets the minimum payment. However, instead of prioritizing based on interest, you would prioritize the card with the lowest balance so that you can pay it off and start using the money that would have been tied up in minimum payments to start paying down other cards. This creates a "Snowball" effect as you find yourself able to make larger payments with less lines of credit carrying debt.

Question:

In the mid-2010s, The Russian Federation engaged in military conflict with Ukraine. This conflict persists on a low level to this day. What is the reason that Russia began this conflict?

Answer:

There are multiple reasons for Russia's interest in Ukraine. Perhaps the most important is the reclamation of the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia views as Russian territory and a vital gateway to the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to its strategic value, a number of ethnic Russians and Cossacks live in Crimea who have expressed an interest in returning to Russia. Similarly, the Donbass region has many ethnic Russians who wish to rejoin their mother country. Another crucial reason for this action is Russian interest in natural gas pipelines to Europe. The Russian economy is largely built on the export of this natural resource and with Ukraine trying to join NATO and the EU, Russia saw a potential obstacle to their ability to export their product.

Question:

President Franklin Roosevelt is best known for his leadership during The Great Depression and World War 2. What are some of the programs he launched during his administration, and what did those programs accomplish?

Answer:

Through the New Deal, President Roosevelt was responsible for creating, among many other programs, the Social Security Administration (SSA), Civilian Works Administration (CWA), and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The most well known of these is the Social Security Administration, as it plays a large part in modern American life and politics. This administration was and is responsible for administering the Social Security trust fund that Americans pay into which they will be able to access in retirement. The Civilian Works Administration was responsible for creating much of the infrastructure in the United States of America, much of which lasts to this day! While the CWA was short-lived, it was instrumental in keeping Americans employed and able to keep money coming into their households. In return, the nation received many new projects such as parks, fields, bridges, and schools. The CCC is a related, but longer-lived program which employed young men for similar purposes of building infrastructure and providing payment to them for their services, a part of which would be sent home to their familes. This program was as much about restoring American morale after the Great Depression as it was about creating work.
