Question:

Jonathan C.
Answer:

Question:

Why is it essential to understand and take into account the country of origin and the mother tongue of a student when teaching a language?

Jonathan C.
Answer:

There are many methods of teaching that differ in many ways. Some are focused on grammar, others on the conversation. Some are based on theory while others prefer interactivity. Each of these methods has strengths and weaknesses, especially when it comes to teaching a language. Indeed, most of these methods do not take into account cultural and linguistic differences, although this is an essential point. For example, a French student does not have the same educational logic and the same way of thinking as a Thai student. The former has been accustomed to participate and actively communicate in the language he wishes to learn. The second is mainly used to listen to courses purely theoretical and often focuses on learning vocabulary, but without using it on a regular basis during the conversation. If these differences are not taken into account, it can be very difficult to offer quality lessons and this may even discourage the student. This is why it is important for a teacher to adapt his method of teaching languages according to the country from which the student is born.
