Subject: Study Skills
I've been struggling with staying on task while studying. I always get distracted, and I have a difficult time staying focused for a long amount of time. Do you have any pointers?
Hello! First, try to find a quiet place with no distractions. If this isn't possible, see if you can get ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones. This will help eliminate any outside noise. Then allow yourself breaks. Try setting a timer for 25 minute increments. When the timer goes off, allow yourself a "brain break." Stretch and just take a break. Don't extend the break to more than 10 minutes. Then sit back down and start that timer again. After a few hours, take a longer extended break, or finish for the day.
Subject: Library and Information Science
I'm struggling locating books at my library on inventors who are black. Can you please help me?
Hello! In your library's online catalog, try searching the subject term "African American inventors." This is the subject term the Library of Congress uses, therefore most libraries will use it too.
I need help with researching an author and her works. I'm doing a report on Harper Lee, and I need to use at least one reputable database. Can you guide me to such a database?
Hello! You should try the "Literary Reference Center." It's a database that focuses on authors and their works. If you search through "keyword" search, type the following phrase into the search box: Harper AND Lee. This will ensure you pull articles that contain the author's full name.
needs and Jessica will reply soon.
