Questions

Subject: Writing

Question:

I have ideas, but I have trouble getting the words out and end up writing nothing. What are some helpful methods that I can use to combat this?

Answer:

I have often struggled with this issue and the best solution that I have found is to record yourself talking about what you want to write or utilizing a dictation tool on your word document. Post recording or dictation, scout for the golden nuggets either by listening to the recording or reading your thoughts aloud. Although this method may seem to be simply verbal vomit, you'll find that you know more about what you wish and you have starting sentences to propel the remainder of your argument.

Question:

How have Puccini's operas revolutionized the genre?

Answer:

Prior to Puccini, operas consisted of characters that were mythical or historical. These characters reflected the attributes of the nobles who commissioned these works as entertainment. Puccini's operas, specifically "La Boheme" (1896), circumvents the lives of working class citizens in the artistic community. It was a musical work that spoke to the populous mass rather than a select view. Where it not for the opera "La Boheme," we would not have Broadway musicals like "Rent," which even utilizes Puccini's theme, "Musetta's Waltz," as a guitar lick.

How can I strengthen my statement of purpose and stand out amongst other applicants for my program?

Answer:

Institutions are aware that by applying to their program you wish to go and believe it to be a suitable choice. The key to strengthening your statement is researching the program and its faculty members to identify the unique opportunities the program offers. Is there a professor that would be a fantastic mentor? Do they have internships or teaching opportunities that align with your professional career goals? Administrators are inclined towards students who will reap the benefits of their program and reflect success in their respective field. Acknowledging these benefits demonstrate that you are invested in your education and self-motivated towards your goals, therefore administers would be more excited to invest in you.
