Question:

How would you describe the air quality of a busy City's Central Business District (CBD) between 07:30am- 09:30am in Summer?

Inactive
Emmah M.
Answer:

07:30- 09:30am are traffic peak hours as employees and employers rush into the CBD to begin their days in the offices. Industries also dispatch their delivery vehicles around this time into the CBD commercial outlets. As a result the air is ridden with exhaust fumes such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrous oxides. When it is sunny as is usually the case on summer mornings these nitrous oxides react in the sun to produce photochemical smog which manifests as a brownish haze. These pollutants may cause adverse health effects and as such the air quality may be described as on the upper end of moderate (4-6) on the air quality index.
