Tutor profile: Alexandra T.
What is your teaching style?
In teaching Russian, I prioritize inclusivity and structure. I use the communicative method and develop the curriculum according to my student's needs. My goal is to keep you motivated and teach you the real life Russian. I use a lot of authentic materials (my favorite articles, songs, movies) and rely on my own cultural background.
What is your writing philosophy?
You can and should write because writing is the best way to understand yourself and make sense of your experience. Writing can be painful and beautiful, it invites you to ask questions and push your limits. The best writing is open and facilitates the dialog, it has the power to connect you to the world. (I have worked as a Writing Fellow and I believe that the writer's voice is more important than any genre conventions. We need to let fresh air in academic writing.)
What is your research about?
My research interests include modern and contemporary periods in Russian literature and culture. As a graduate student, I apply feminist critique to the works of canonical as well as contemporary Russian authors. Currently, I focus on women's poetry.
