What is my Spanish writing sample? Los monstruos de América Latina

Answer:

Answer:

Despite recent efforts in legislation to promote equality, sexual orientation-based discrimination perpetuates and greatly affects the mental health of queer youth [QY]. The prejudice faced by this population stems from several false claims made throughout history like the role of gay men in the AIDS epidemic and homosexuality’s previous categorization as a mental disorder. Despite these misconceptions, society has become more tolerant of sexual minorities, but this newfound acceptance actually has a negative impact on QY. With the growing acceptance, QY are disclosing their sexuality at adolescence or younger which is a critical developmental stage shaped by the strong opinions of peers; and since their peers are younger at the time of their disclosure, they are more inclined to express prejudice and homophobic attitudes (Russell & Fish, 2016). While it is no surprise that adolescents in general struggle with mental health issues, QY face discrimination solely because of their identity which results in severe mental health effects like a suicidality history rate of 28% as found in one study (Marshal et al., 2011). This paper will discuss these mental health effects, current state and recommendations to address the issue, and why and how nursing care can advance social justice for this issue. Although some believe that being queer is just like any other adversity faced by adolescents, nurses should advocate for LGBT+ diversity initiatives because if left untreated, these mental health issues faced by QY can result in acute anxiety and depression leading to suicidal ideation.
