Why is grammar so important?
Grammar is important because it is a linguistic structure that enables us to communicate clearly. We need to use proper grammar in order to be understood, for a common grammar serves as common ground. By paying attention to even the smallest details, our communication and expression becomes as well-ordered and effective as possible.
How has literature changed your life?
Literature has made a lasting impact on my life over the past several years, and it continues to change the way I see the world and all the people within it. When you read a book, the author transports you into an entire experience, one that is often very unfamiliar, perhaps uncomfortable, and frequently unsettling. The people, places, events, and ideas expressed through literature provide insight into our own circumstances and also open our eyes to experiences previously unknown to ourselves. Literature has the power to connect people throughout all times and places, for it shows that no one is alone.
What is the purpose of studying English?
The purpose of studying English cannot be limited to knowledge of the language, in all its mechanics, vocabulary, and historical evolution, for the subject of English encompasses the people, places, events, and ideas that have formed its literature and language. In coming to understand how words are used to convey ideas, emotions, and experiences, we are better able to understand the people contained within the pages of a book.
