How does an expository essay differ from a persuasive essay?
An expository essay confines itself to "just the facts, Ma'am" without editorializing or giving one's opinion. A persuasive essay, on the other hand, makes use of facts but tries to persuade the reader to take one side or another, even including counter-arguments to possible objections and a "call to action" as a part of the conclusion.

How can the United States trace its system of government back to ancient Greece?
The ancient Greek city-state of Athens influenced the government of the United States by inventing democracy ("demos", meaning "people and "kratos" meaning "government"). Athenian citizens elected leaders and made decisions directly as part of the Athenian Assembly. The United States is a representative democracy, in that Americans vote for leaders by choosing others to represent and vote for them.
