How does the first law of thermodynamics apply to the brakes on an automobile?
The first law of thermodynamics states energy cannot be created or destroyed in a closed system. When an automobile is slowed down while braking, the kinetic energy of motion in the car (mass X velocity squared) is converted to heat in the brakes.
Is there always a solution to where two lines or curves cross if the equations are defined and both fit on a plane?
Not necessarily, there are multiple reasons why this might be unsolvable. The lines might be parallel and never cross, and curves may bend away from each other
