Question:

Why are there so many different types of formatting?

Answer:

There are so many different types of formatting because each field of study has different requirements when it comes to writing. Take MLA for example, this type of writing is generally used for school papers. The formatting is simple, providing to the teacher the student's name, assignment, the date that it is due, and it lays out the information in simple paragraph format. Whereas APA is more for research papers and higher academic writing. This format is formal, presenting with a cover page, an abstract that summarizes the paper, it usually doesn't have citations but references to allow the readers to focus more on the research rather than the sources. Then of course Chicago style is used for ethnographies or more field studies reports. This format is formal, but gives the readers the citations in footnotes, allowing the reader to cross-reference information on the study. These are general overviews of formatting types, but there are so many because each type allows the reader to access certain information faster. So it's important to know which formatting type is appropriate based on the paper that you are writing, that the audience can access the information they are after faster, and still adhere to that disciplines writing style.

Question:

Why should studying religion be important to you?

Answer:

Many times when it comes to religious studies, those who are indifferent fields like medicine, math, or any other stem field don't see a reason as to why they should understand other religions. Having some type of understanding of religions allows people to connect with others, have a different perspective on worldviews, and allows for more open-minded communication. For example, a nurse or doctor may encounter a patient praying in a particular corner every day. Some may not understand why this is so important to the patient, but by studying religion the nurse/doctor would know that Muslims pray towards Mecca daily. It is one of the pillars they must complete before death, to show their faith to Allah.

Question:

Based on the materials that you have in regards to Greek Mythology, why do you feel that Zeus King of the Gods was portrayed as sleeping or forcing himself on women in so many of the myths?

Answer:

Zeus being portrayed sleeping around and even forcing himself on other women in so many of the myths is important because it shows us what was perhaps common in the Ancient Greek culture. Myths were not only stories told for entertainment, but tools to answer questions and show qualities of culture being acted out amongst the Gods. This was especially seen in the Greek mythos because many of the gods were not only personifications of emotions or tasks, but were meant to act like the Greecian people. So, by having Zeus, this all-powerful God seen sleeping around and forcing himself on other women is crucial to understanding how men and women may have interacted. Meaning men who had power, or even men who had little power would use women regularly, and perhaps this would happen so much that women would have children out of wedlock. This side of Zeus shows us what was not only common in the ancient greek community, but perhaps so common that it made it into the very storyline of one of their gods.
