What was the result of the fall of the roman Empire?
The fall of the Roman Empire was a very significant event in world history. The fall of Rome marked the beginning of what are commonly referred to as the Middle Ages. At the time, Rome was the world superpower and dominated much of Europe. There were several reason for the fall of the Roman Empire. One of the most important reasons was the introduction of Christianity. In 313 AD Emperor Constantine introduced the new religion to the empire. He promoted Christian tolerance for the empire, effectively clashing with the polytheistic religious practices of the time. By accepting Christianity, Constantine undermined the dominating religious traditions. Another result of the fall of Rome was caused by a decline in economic conditions. The west was suffering economically. Agricultural production slowed and the cost of food and goods soared. Rome could not support the rising costs and this forced people to migrate elsewhere. the West and East had trading deficits which resulted in the West purchasing goods from the East, whom had nothing to offer in exchange. The currency was changed to and produced with less value and the result was inflation which left the empire unable to effectively take care of its people. A third important factor was the invasion of Germanic tribes (also known as barbarians.) They comprised of groups from the West and the East. In the west Barbarian tribes made were made up of the Franks, Angles, Marcomanni, Alamanni, and Saxon. The Eastern Barbarian tribes included the Vandals, Gepids, Ostrogoths, and Visigoths. in the forth Century, C.E. the groups from both directions invaded the Roman Empire effectively forcing assimilation. About 410 C.E., the Visigoth King Alaric was successful in taking over the city of Rome.
What was the significance of the Louisiana Purchase to the expansion of the new nation?
Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana territory in 1803 for the sum of $10 million dollars, which appalled most people, as that was an unheard of amount of money at that time. This was a significant aspect of the Jefferson presidency and was one of the biggest and most important real estate purchase in American History. The Louisiana territory was claimed by the French and encompassed a vast area of the United States. The territory was comprised of the area of the Mississippi River westward to the Rocky Mountains. It also encompassed the area of the Gulf of Mexico to the south to Canada at the North. One of the major reasons why the Louisiana purchase was significant is because it expanded the size of the country, effectively creating opportunities for exploration. The Louisiana Purchase became the greatest achievement of Jefferson's presidency. The French dominated most of the United States at the time. They held more territory than other other European country. Jefferson had offered a sum of $3 million dollars to buy the Louisiana territory from France in 1801. France rejected this offer. Jefferson again made a bid two years later of $10 million dollars, which the French accepted. As a result of the Louisiana Purchase, fifteen new states were added to the nation. The result of the Louisiana Purchase was the immediate beginning of westward expansion. In 1804, Jefferson commissioned the Corps of Discovery, a team of 45 men lead by Meriweather Lewis and William Clark. This expedition covered nearly 8,000 miles of the newly purchased Louisiana territory.
