Questions
Subject: TOEFL
How long should I prepare for TOEFL?
Well, it all depends on 2 things: what is your current level, and what score are you aiming at? Typically, I recommend devoting at least 2-3 months for a thorough preparation, although the minimum would be around 10 lessons (in my experience). This doesn't allow much time to improve your English dramatically, but it does give an overview of all exam questions and a small amount of practice. If you feel that your English level is solid (Upper-Int. +), then perhaps that's all you need.
Subject: GMAT
How difficult is GMAT? Is it simply about knowing math and English well?
GMAT can be extremely tough without proper preparation. A common misconception is that it's enough to know many formulae and have a great vocabulary. That is not true at all: GMAT tests your ability to think critically in every question, not just your arithmetic and lexical abilities and knowledge. If you wish to prepare well and get a high score, you must invest your time in the skills that are tested: critical thinking, time management, being creative and open-minded etc.
Subject: English as a Second Language
What makes a great ESL tutor?
Firstly, an ESL tutor has to be knowledgeable: not only should their language skills be on the highest level, but one must also recognize various difficulties ESL students may have when studying English and the tutor must be able to adapt their program and methodology to the students.
