Questions
Subject: Spanish
Is Spanish hard to learn?
It doesn't have to be! Spanish is a language that is fun to hear, to speak and to learn. You'll find that a lot of words (like "computer" and "computadora" or "bike" and "bicicleta") are already familiar to you! And you don't need to fear the dreaded "conjugation tree" either. With just a bit of work on a few words, you'll soon be able to handle any word that comes your way. Most importantly, I love teaching Spanish because it is useful -- as the fourth most spoken language in the world, you will have plenty of opportunities to use Spanish to help yourself and others. If you can use a language regularly, learning it will quickly become second nature.
Subject: Political Science
I'm not a politician. Why should I care about political science?
Political science is not just about the decisions of presidents and prime ministers. It is also about the decisions you make every day about what to buy, what to watch, and even (or especially) what you post on TikTok. All of us make political decisions every day. Political science helps us to put those decisions in context and see the impact they have on our world.
Subject: International Relations
Why do computer hackers care about American hamburgers?
Scholars used to think that the borders on the map were unmoving and impassable. But every day a new group comes along that doesn't conform to those borders. These "transnational actors" are changing the relationships between countries. Whether these hackers are in it for the money, the political power, or simply to disrupt the international system, these are the types of groups that international relations can help to explain.
