Solve for x. 6x + 2 = 20
You want to get 6x by itself on the left side of the equal sign, so subtract 2 from itself, which cancels it out because that value will be zero, and subtract 2 on the right side of the equal sign(20-2), which will leave you with 6x=18. Now to get x by itself we must perform the inverse operation of 6 multiplied by x, which is to divide. Remember, what you do on one side of the equal sign you must do to the other side. So 6 divided by 6 leaves you with 1, which doesn't have to be written down because the coefficient of any variable is one. 18 divided by 6 equals 3. The value of x = 3. Now check your work by substituting in 3 for the value of x to show that the equation remains true.

Twenty people went canoeing at Big Hill Pond State Park. Only two people are allowed to ride in each canoe. How many canoes will be needed?
You would say 20 people divided by 2 people per canoe to find that you would need 10 canoes. If you are a visual learner, you could easily have drawn 20 dots and began circling groups of 2. When all dots have been circled, you would see that you have 10 groups of 2.
Why is Maslow's hierarchy of needs so important for teacher's to consider?
Each of the 5 levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs serve a purpose. Food, water, and clothing are essential for students to to be their best. Without these physiological needs, a student can not function to its full potential. Security and safety are in the next level. Students must feel safe and secure in their environment for optimal success in the classroom. When students have the physiological and safety. needs established, the next level is developing a sense of belonging and being loved. This comes from friendships and human interactions. Being a part of a group is a big step in fulfilling these needs. This level leads us to the esteem needs. Esteem needs are developing through achievement and mastery as well as independence. A student's reputation falls into this level of the hierarchy. The final level is the self-actualization needs. In this level, a student or an individual seeks personal growth or desires to accomplish things. As a teacher, each level of the hierarchy are vitally important for a student to be able to learn. Without one of the level being met, the student will stumble in their academics and personal life.
