What are the three challenges in almost any type of writing?
First, the organization is a challenge, how to organize our thoughts and get them on the paper in a way that the reader can follow. Secondly, the use of words, language, and choosing the correct words to make the message clear, vivid and specific can be a challenge. Lastly, the use of critical thinking is certainly a challenge, even a creative challenge, for many types of writing.
Why is English is a difficult language to master for both native and non-native speakers?
So many rules--unpredictable spelling and challenging grammar--make it difficult. Perhaps we simply need more time and practice to master it.
If communication is so basic and seemingly simple for all humans to do, why is it so difficult to do, yet so critical to master?
“The greatest enemy of communication is the illusion that it has taken place” (William H. Whyte, 1950, Fortune magazine. Like the quote here, we assume that if we speak, the message has been sent and understood. Yet there are so many influences upon our communication, filters, barriers, relationships, attitudes, which affect our communication and muddy the message to the receiver.
